WELCOME PARENTS & STUDENTS Dear Parents & Students, I would like to welcome you to our first year of theater arts in Franklin Academy. My name is Joanne Shultz and I will be the drama teacher for the entire year. I am so happy that you have chosen to explore the world of performing arts with me. I have many wonderful things to share with you and although this may be a new journey for some of you, I believe that by the end of the year you will discover things about yourself you’ve never expected. What can you expect? In my class you will learn theater “lingo”, staging, acting techniques, projection of the voice, characterization, improvisational techniques, stage managing, basic lighting & sound design, stage make-up, costuming, memorizing, and much more. You will also be learning theater history and all the eras of the performing arts that got us to where we are today. This is only a small portion of the “fun” we will be having. Make no mistake, this is an approved curriculum mandated by Palm Beach County and although certain requirements must be addressed such as quizzes, exams, and projects, this will be a most fun and rewarding elective. Some information about me. I hold a drama 6-12 certification as well as certifications in elementary and ESE. I owned a theater school in Broward County for many years and have directed and produced over 50 shows. I have also produced over 20 professional adult musical theater shows. I have and sometimes still perform myself. As you can see, theater and children are my passion and I feel very lucky to be able to share these with you in middle school. I am very serious about my passion and hope you will want to shine. In all my years of teaching the performing arts to students, I ALWAYS find talent in each one of them. If performing is not your thing, no worries, maybe you have a passion to learn stage managing. Maybe you want to help with costumes and/or prop making. There’s so many things you can do in theater to get the creative juices flowing. I look forward to meeting you and to have a successful and fun year together. Dramatically yours, Mrs. Shultz [email protected]
