Dear Parents & Students,
Welcome to our last week of school together in 2017. It appears our school year just started and now we are 1/2 way findished. . Time does go by so quickly.
This past week we had our Chapter 8 exam….complete with a graphic of voice production. The students had to label their graphics. Due to the odd number of suggested labels, that portion of the test was worth 102 points. Any student who got 302 points for their exam made the 302 club and is invited to have breakfast with me on Wednesday of this week. I told those students that they will be meeting me in our classroom at 7:45.
We also began our “mock” auditions to get the students ready for their real ones when they return in January. We will be discussing ensemble work and the importance it holds. To that end we read and watched a video on the Greek Chorus. I wasn’t quite sure how the students would react to it but they found the concept pretty interesting and it shows how working well in an ensemble makes a dramatic piece very interesting. When we return, we will all be working on our own Greek Chorus.
For the Winter Break I told the class that I do have an assignment for them to complete. It is not very difficult, but they will be needing your help with remembrances of your family history. I am posting this assignment here now. Please make sure they complete it for a grade.
I hope you have a great Christmas, those who celebrate. Please check back over the break for more information. I will be posting during that time on my Weebly.
Stay safe.

Winter Break Assignment
Last week we read about storytellers and how the art form morphed into theater. I would like you to reflect on the article and get similar information about your family. Your heritage, what was important in your family genealogy and how it affects you today. What parts of your personality comes from either the maternal or paternal side of your family.
You will then construct an outline of traits and behaviors you feel that are the ones that make you…you!
After you write your outline, you will write a small two-three-person scene to depict these important points.
For you scene you should first determine where it will be taking place. E.g. the kitchen (table), in front of your house, at a party, in school….etc.
You will choose your characters. Describe them physically and behaviorally. (That is so that any actors you choose to portray these characters will have traits to draw upon).
You will then assign dialogue that you will write for each character. The scene should be no more than one-two pages long. This assignment should have a conflict and resolution.
