Week of February 12th
Good morning Parents & Students,
I hope you had a great week. Class this week we covered the remaining Chapter 10 pages. We worked on character analysis. The students wrote up stories about a picture I had given them. (A silhouette specifically). in order for them to fully believe their character was a “real” person. I must say that I read some very interesting pieces….hmmmm. We then started reading scripts that were either duet or mixed scenes. They worked on their analysis and we discussed how they saw the person they were reading for.
This week coming up they will be taking the I-Ready diagnostics. In between those we will officially be finishing up Chapter 10 all culminating in a test on Wednesday, February 14th.
Yesterday many of my students performed in the School-wide showcase. They KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK! I was so very proud of them. I believe a video will be put on the school website for those of you to see. You will be amazed what they accomplished with just about 5 total hours of rehearsal. My heart is full.
I don’t have a final date for our Drama Showcase yet. The date I chose originally turned out to be a picture day so I will be finalizing that date this week and share it with you. The showcase will involve all of my students….all 5 classes-worth. Each class will perform several vignettes with many disciplines that we’ve already covered in class. They will be doing scenes, both straight plays and musicals, a Greek Chorus, some monologues and a pantomime. This will most entertaining. We will be performing during the day for the school and we will be inviting the parents to an evening performance for a nominal fee that will go towards the newly formed Drama department. (This is our first year)!
This week we are so excited as many of my students will be attending “Wicked” at the Broward Center. It is one of my favorite shows and on Thursday, February 15th will mark my 11th time seeing it. I cannot wait to see the faces of my students when they see this show. They will be BLOWN AWAY! I am asking all parents to send lunch that day. We will eat in my room at 11:00 and then board the bus at 11:30. I am guessing that since the show is about 2 ½ hours, and by the time we get on the bus and settled, and deal with rush-hour traffic, we should get home around 7:00ish. I will send home a hard copy of the itinerary and I will send a Remind text to you when we get about 20 minutes away from the school for pick-up. I am asking all parents to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be on time for pick-up. It’s a long day for the students and the chaperones. I’ve had to wait on parents too many times to not put this in this letter. We do have school the next day.
If you have any questions, either send me text on Remind.com or email me.
Have a great week.
Mrs. Joanne Shultz
