Welcome parents,
This past week we started working on the details of how to make a pantomime look realistic. We saw some very interesting videos by experts in the field and we tried to duplicate what we saw. I must say that the students did an excellent job overall. Below you can see for yourself! They learned how to "lean against a wall", "lean against a counter top, frontwards and backwards, and finally, "pull a rope". All, of course, were not really there.
We finished off the week by creating a tableau which is a striking picture made by the students as the subjects. I gave them several scenarios to represent what was given to them and they had a competition. The tableau leader who got the most points by having the audience recognizing what their scenario was, got a won. I must confess, there was a lot of laughing during that time. You can see some of the students working on their "leaning" skits.
Next week we will be continuing on with our pantomime unit. I will be showing videos featuring the “masters of mime’. We will be studying the biography of Marcel Marceau who is the gold standard.
The students keep asking me about the makeup demonstration class. We have a short week this week so
I must delay that class until the week of October 23rd. The students have to nearly complete this unit before they are ready to do their pantomimes in makeup.
Important reminders:
Thursday, October 109th is a half day
Friday, October 20th is a teacher work day -No school
I have 18 spots left for our trip to the Broward Center to see “Wicked”. I will be closing out the down payment portion of the trip by the end of October. If you still want to send your child, please send in your deposit of $35.00 and the permission slip.
Have a great week.
