Hello parents & students,
Welcome to October....the month of Halloween. Many of my students have already told me about what they intend to be. In fact, some of them actually told me over a month ago. Think they're excited???
This past week we concluded Chapter 3 which was all about Observation. On Thursday the students took their exam and I can happily say that out of my many students, 85% and up was the majority of grades. My rule of anyone getting below a 65% on anything graded requires a parent/guardian signature. This lets me know that the parents are aware, in a timely manner, of what is going on in class. It would be a good idea to check on Power School to monitor these things as well. I told the students that if I do not get a signed test back, I will call home to make sure that you, the parent is aware of the grade. As always, I allow the students to review whatever is given on a test right before the test so it is fresh in their minds.
We also began working on community issues. This is their first foray into the students writing their own scenes. We went over an outline of how the scene is to be written. The students worked in groups. After they picked out their conflict/resolution concerns, they wrote their scenes. They also chose a cast, other than themselves, to perform the scene. They were also instructed to choose a director and a prop master/mistress.
This week we will be going over, once more, stage directions. The next step is the blocking (staging) of the scenes. Once stage directions is finalized, I will be teaching the "directors" along with the entire class, how to block their particular scenes. I will also be using my projector and showing video on how it is done in situations other than our classroom.
A stage direction quiz will be given again as well as a grade for the scenes that were written. We will also be going over new theater terms during the course of the week.
FYI - As you can see by my graphic, class photos are scheduled for tomorrow, October 2nd.
