Hello Parents,
I'm sure we're all happy that hurricane Irma is behind us. From all accounts so far I think, I hope, all of you are safe and have power restored to your homes. If anything positive comes of this, I hope that it shows how resilient we are and that there is nothing more important than family.
I wanted to thank all the parents of ,my 6th graders who came to Curriculum night. It was a pleasure meeting all of you. I hope to meet my 7th and 8th grade parents soon.
This week we are continuing on where we left off in class. We will be working on observation, awareness and impressions. This is very important for the actor to understand because it helps them to appreciate, interpret and create a character.
We will also be talking about community experiences and we will begin writing short scenes involving the various topics that are important to the student and their immediate world around them. That familiarity will give them the confidence to start performing short presentations of their own work.
With this in mind we will be discussing how the playwright uses 5 components to make his work interesting and believable.
Writing outlines will be an integral part of writing process. How to choose what genre the student is most comfortable with, e.g. comedy or dramatic scenes will determine how their outlines should be set up.
Improv and theater games will be included in most every class session. This week since we will be working on observation, we will be doing our improv exercises utilizing objects around our classroom. I will also be using my projector for visualization exercises as well.
I have already graded chapter 2. The tests will be returned, if they haven't before last week at the end of class. These grades were already input before the hurricane.
Interim reports will be distributed on Wednesday, the 20th and Thursday, the 21st is a teacher workday, therefore there is no school.
I would like to wish everyone who celebrates the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah, a good year.
Club news: There will be a musical theater club. We will be meeting on Wednesdays and Friday mornings from 7:30-8:00 with me and Friday afternoons from 3:30-4:00 with Mr. Benson. We will be doing a revue (with dialogue) of Disney fairy tales. More info to follow via flyer.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. shultz.joanne@franklin-academy org.
