Happy Fall, y'all,
I hope by this time you are all "powered up" and things are back to normal in your homes. I know a few of my students told me that they had just recently got their power turned back on. Sometimes it's amazing how we take just the everyday things for granted.
This past week the students and I worked on sensory and memory recall in anticipation of them bringing personal experiences and emotions to the characters they will be portraying. I know they've shared with you how sometimes their recall was sad. A number of my students did their exercise siting happy memories. They were supposed to describe an object that was important to them and in turn, give the reason behind its importance.
It was gratifying to me that the students felt comfortable in front of one another to get through the class session. By doing this, the student will not only be able to make their characters believable when they recall their own emotions, but it will allow them to fully act out and not feel self-conscious in front of an audience. We also assigned different emotions to nursery rhymes where the students had to recite the rhymes given random emotions. They class had a good time doing this.
This week we will be discussing community concerns. We will point out key characters that play an important role within the community and begin working on plot development based on their impressions. They will begin writing a short scene that will encompass these characters. We will start with an outline and from there we will discuss the best ways that they, as the authors of their piece can best give "life" to their characters. They will write a 1st draft of their scenes and work in small groups as a way of critiquing and finalizing their work.
We will have finished Chapter 3 in our drama textbooks this week and a test will be given after we review the chapter together.
Please note that this Monday, September 25th from 6-7:30 PM, we will be meeting the 7th and 8t grade parents for the curriculum night that we had to reschedule due to Hurricane Irma. I look forward to meeting all of my parents. You will be following your child's Day One schedule. Also, for the same reason, picture day was rescheduled for October 2nd.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to send me an email. [email protected]
