I would like to wish all of you a happy and safe holiday.
Last week we started Chapter 2 in our drama book. This chapter deals with warm-ups and tongue twisters. While these might seem like "just fun" stuff, I assure you, they are very useful techniques when you are a performer. For instance, the tongue twisters help the actor with diction & enunciation. These are crucial as when you perform in a live setting, since the distance between the stage and the audience interferes with understanding the dialogue. When an actor warms up either their voices and/or their bodies, they are flexible and pliable. They can move about the stage effortlessly. By warming up their vocal chords they can project safely. They don't have to "scream" to project. Last week's grade included their presentation piece. They made up their own tongue twisters and I must say, some of them were so clever that I plan to utilize them throughout the year for diction practice. They also came up with their own warm-ups. Some had me play "spa" music and the classes did some cool meditations and visualizations. These exercises help with stage fright. For this short week we will be continuing on with our warm-ups. We will also be doing some additional character bios. As always improvs will be in the mix. Every time a student gets up in front of their classmates and presents, they develop a much more confident attitude. I am starting to see even my most timid students start to get up and join the exercises. We will be having a Chapter Two test this coming week. There will be a review prior to the test. I look forward to meeting you on curriculum night this week. Please check the Franklin Academy website for specific times. Hope to see you then...... Mrs. Joanne Shultz Drama Department La |
