Week 3 August 28-Sepember 1
Last week was full of fun things. We worked on more improv exercises and the students seem to be getting better and better at “thinking on their feet”!
Last week’s project also went well. We’re working on character study and the students came up with very interesting biographies on Humpty Dumpty. Doing bios for a character gives an actor an intimate view of the person they will be portraying on stage. They also made pictures of what they thought their Humpty Dumpty should look like. I will try to get some good pictures to post. Right now many of them are on display outside of my room.
This week’s happenings are also full of fun.
We will be working on relaxation techniques & warm-ups, ways to concentrate on the action of the play,
learn how to meet cue responsibilities, and focus on the objective of the character.
Vocabulary for this week includes:
adrenaline, articulation, pliable, professionals, routine, stage fright, and socializing.
Improv games will be continued as well. These games will help with what our focus is on this week…..stage fright and relaxation.
I was pleased to have my “shy” students tell me that they felt so much better after they presented their character project in front of the class. Just a few chances at speaking in front of others will change a student’s whole outlook on public speaking.
Starting on Monday students MUST be following our uniform dress code. If students do not adhere to these rules, they will be getting a uniform infraction.
Please note that the students are not allowed to bring anything other than water into the classroom. We give the students snack time at 10:00. They are all starving at that time. So far they have been cleaning up after themselves so I will continue to allow them to eat at that time.
Your children had a test this Friday. It was their first test in my class which is always the hardest I believe. Those grades will be posted by Tuesday, if not earlier. I want to make sure that all students have finished their test. As always, they already have their classwork grade posted for the past week as well as the Humpty Dumpty project.
Have a great week!
