Week of March 5th
Good morning,
Welcome to the week of March 5th.
This past week was very productive. For our 8th graders, the first of their FSAs were administered. The ELA writing portion. The regular schedules were altered, as they will be going forward as the FSAs kick into high gear. We must allow total silence for maximum concentration on the part of our students. We are considered on lock down during these tests. Your child’s cooperation is most appreciated.
We have completed our Chapter 12 unit on dramatic roles. The students wrote their own dramatic scenes and performed them in front of the class. The class, in turn, critiqued their peers. This is a great way to have the students really watch the performances and help each other improve or keep what they liked for the performances going forward. They know, and they get the fact that critiques are not a bad thing. It is a way, from another point of view, to enhance future presentations.
Two of the classes already took the Chapter 12 test as they had a larger block of time to complete. The remaining classes will take them on Monday.
Next week we begin Chapter 13…comedy…..All of the students are looking forward to that chapter. I wonder why. I cannot wait to introduce them to new (old) comedy classics.
I did get some good news today as well. Cinemark at the Boynton Beach Mall has agreed to hold onto their copy of “The Greatest Showman”. Even though it will officially be out of the theaters within the next two weeks, we will be going on a field trip on May 15th to see it. I don’t have the final breakdown of the cost at this time. I will know by the end of the week or sooner. I can take approximately 50 students. It will be first come, first serve. I’ve already told the students that they can submit their information to me in the morning before we start classes so everyone will have an equal opportunity to join. I’ve spoken with the students during each class to tell them that any behaviors that crop up between then and now that are legitimate, will disqualify them from going. If there are more than 2 lunch detentions, that will also be included in the disqualification process. This is a privilege and a treat. If a student cannot comply with the rules of my classroom or the school, it is unfair for them to take the spot of a student who has had no behavioral incidents. As soon as I have more details I will send you a remind to check the Weebly again or ask your child for the permission slip.
Reminders
